These photos were taken at the Lougheed swap meet in Burnaby in 1977. For a newly minted art student, the juxtaposition of objects, whether previously valued or treasured, were mixed together with more common mass produced items, created a surreal environment. For me, there was a certain pathos because of this great leveling where everything was reduced to an indiscriminate mass. In some ways this was a site of abandonment, which ties into my fascination of deserted buildings sites.
